"... a workshop with Norman Taylor is the best general introduction to Lecoq I know. Norman gets at the essence of the work: what we reveal in how we move and how that can be expressed theatrically. ... I can't recommend him too highly, to beginners as well as aficionados."

David Landon
Professor of Theatre Arts
Swanee, The University of the South
Lecoq Intensive, 2008

"I experienced the pure joy of physical imagination in Norman Taylor's workshop. ...I relished his brilliant exploration of movement and the magical pleasure of play. Never has the intense hard work of physical acting been so much fun and useful at the same time."

Craig Bacon
Actor & Ass't Prof. of Theatre Arts
Conservatory of Theatre Arts & Film
SUNY Purchase
Lecoq Intensive, 2008

"[Norman's] extreme talent and rigor in observing the body in motion and translating it to theatre is inspiring. As a teacher I was struck by his unceasing energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the work. He is a master."

Eva Burgess
Lecoq Intensive, 2008

"Norman is a master of the moment. Everything he teaches is derived from the life of the room. If you're interested in accessing your comedic core and allowing play to flourish, Norman's your man."

Peter Musante
Actor, The Blue Man Group
Lecoq Intensive 2008

Norman Taylor teaches the master class

The Art of Movement at the Service of the Actor

Internationally acclaimed master teacher, Norman Taylor, gives workshops in the Lecoq technique

Beginning with the premise that everything moves, this workshop is an exploration into the inherently physical nature of theater and the dramatic potential of the world around us. It will explore three fundamental components of Jacques Lecoq's approach to artistic training: the analysis of movement, physical storytelling, and the actor-as-creator. By drawing upon the inspiration of music, painting and poetry, the actor will explore styles of storytelling that include spoken word, pantomime blanche, the language of gesture and sound. Working from short stories by Chekhov and Poe, the workshop will culminate in the collective creation of original physical theater pieces.

This workshop offers the actor a unique opportunity to develop a heightened sense of their body in performance with one of the world's greatest teachers of Physical Theater.

Norman Taylor is widely regarded as one of the finest international ambassadors of the pedagogy of Jacques Lecoq. He taught alongside Lecoq at the famed Parisian school for almost 20 years and has taught exclusively with MTS for the last 8. Norman has given Master Classes in over 30 countries at some of the world's most prestigious theater conservatories and is currently on the faculty at the Lassaad school in Belgium.

Participants do not need to have studied Lecoq technique but do need to have a working familiarity with one or more theatrical movement techniques.
